Amazing to think the summer is about half over and I have not gotten a newsletter out. Where does time go?
Classes:
There has been a request for a top down sock class. This is very short notice but we can start one Monday, July 26, 6-8 pm. Due to vacations and the short notice this class will have 5 sessions to help everyone get through a sock. Class is $20 plus supplies.
We have also had several requests for a repeat of the Ridgeway sweater. Many people have also commented that they like the pattern on the inside as much as the right side. So, Bev wrote the pattern inside out to take advantage of the interesting pattern. You can do either the Ridgeway right side out or inside out. Monday evenings 6-8 pm Sept 13, Oct 4, Nov 1, and Dec 6, if needed. Class is $35 plus materials.
Braids cardigan sweater, another Cabin fever pattern is also being offered by Bev. This is a bottom up cardigan knit in one piece. So, when the knitting is done, sew in your ends and proudly wear your sweater. Enjoy an evening out, a little learning and a lot of fun. Cost is $35 plus materials. Friday evenings, 6-8 pm, Oct 8, Nov 5, Dec 10.
Classes that don’t
have dates yet but are in the plans:
Claire would like to teach two-color stranded knitting starting with a hat class and continuing with a mitten class.
Laura has designed a new Entrelac handbag to be knit and felted. She would also like to teach an Advanced beginner lace shawl class (stop in and see the model), twinned knitting which is an old Norwegian and Swedish technique that creates a double thickness fabric. This is also an intermediate class.
I would also like to know how many people would be interested in having Arnhild come and teach another Norwegian sweater class? We would need at least 10-15 people committed to taking this class which would meet 3 different times. The first class would meet to work out gauge, pattern size and learn how to get started knitting your sweater. The next class would be about 1-2 months later to learn how to knit the sleeves and to work out any problems you might have. The third class would meet for a full weekend and be all the finishing techniques. Anyone in the first two sweater class who was unable to complete their sweater would be welcome to join in and end up with a finished product. The class would be about $200 plus materials. Arnhild is an amazing teacher and you will be utterly amazed at how much you will learn. Let me know.
Anna would like to teach felted mittens, cable capers, and felted clogs
New Yarns
I saw a new sock yarn from Skacel and immediately placed a pre order which just arrived this week. The sock yarn is called flying saucer and is so amazing you will just have to see it to understand. It is wrapped in such a way that there are two ends on the outside of the ball then dyed by an injection dye technique. This way you should get nearly identical socks.
I have also had a visit from a yarn rep who showed me yarns from Angel’s Kiss. Angel’s Kiss is a small company in Wisconsin, started with a few alpacas, then bought a small mill, started hand dying and now is buying alpaca fleeces from small farms. The yarn I ordered is the worsted weight alpaca merino blend. It is 60% alpaca and 40% merino and has all the softness of the alpaca and the shape retention of the merino – Fabulous. Skeins have 220 yards and retail for $18 per skein. I am hoping that we like this yarn and will continue to carry it. Watch for it mid August.
That is all for now. I will try to get dates out for the fall classes as soon as I find out when the instructors would like to teach.
